12:34 a.m.
I’ve been so overwhelmed lately that I haven’t taken the time to write. My financial aid for school is a mess, the apartment is flat out dirty, I have three books out from the library that I’ve already renewed once, I just realized that I can’t wear four of my shirts to school, my sleep schedule is off yet again, the list goes on.
I think one of the things that’s bugging me the most is that we have too much stuff. I’ve been getting strong urges to do a major declutter, and we only did the last one in early April. I usually get the Declutter Bug every six months or so.
I’m going to seriously attack my clothes this time. I’m going to wash everything but one outfit (the one I’m wearing when I do the washing, obviously). I’m going to hang all of my clothes in the office closet. Anything that’s left in the office closet at the end of the week will be up for serious declutter consideration. I’ve tried the method where you turn your hangers backward. It was too easy to cheat. To get to my clothes this way, I’ll have to go across the apartment, move three chairs, dig in the closet, replace the chairs, etc. It’s not uncheatable, but it’s much less likely to happen than with the hangers simply turned backward.
I’m even going after my cds this time. DVDs and decorations, bed linens and cleaning supplies, and yarn and candles are all up for consideration. I don’t want anything to feel safe. I’m really tired of so much stuff. It wouldn’t really be bad to see an empty shelf or two in the apartment.
I’m so ready to declutter that I want to start right this minute, one o’ clock even, but it’s too early and I need to go to bed. I hope I wake up with this level of motivation!
1:04 a.m.
I think I’m just having major organizational urges, because I just got the urge to reorganize my entire Home Manual (or Control Journal, in Fly Lady language), and go through every file on the laptop and bookmark on the internet. Whew! Sleep! I gotta!
4:39 a.m.
My alarm was set for five but I woke up completely and alert at four thirty. I weighed myself, and I broke the 260 mark! I’m 258.4! I’m so happy and even a bit proud.
6:18 a.m.
I just had a very nice walk. I decided to go around a different man-made pond in the area. This one doesn’t have any fish as far as I could tell, but the area is surrounded by plants. Half of it is covered with trees. It felt like a decadent treat letting myself walk there.
I need to figure out how to relocate a spider web, as there’s one a couple feet outside the front door. I can’t get by it without ducking, and I don’t enjoy having spider webs on me.
Changing immediately into my exercise clothes when I wake up has been working extremely well to get me moving after breakfast. I can be lazy at times, so putting exercise clothes on before breakfast practically forces me to go walking.
